The Cougs are looking to finish the season on a high note
Washington State baseball will head east to Seattle today for a mid-week matchup against Seattle U and are hoping to kick-start a winning streak as the end of the season nears. The Cougs are coming off of a 2-1 series loss to Fresno State this past weekend and have now lost 14 of their last 17 games. First pitch is scheduled for noon in Bellevue at Bannerwood Ballpark
Over the weekend, the Cougs couldn’t stay strong in the 9th and lost a 4-3 lead to the Bulldogs in the top of the final frame to lose 5-4 on Friday. On Saturday, the Bulldogs put up a pair of 4-run innings and ran away with it to win 12-2. Things turned around on Sunday when the Cougs got 5.1 scoreless innings from Duke Brotherton and used a 3-run 7th inning to win 4-3.
This is the third and final time the Cougs and the Redhawks will play this season. They met twice earlier in the season and the Cougs ran away with both games winning 12-5 and 10-3.
The Redhawks (12-31) are currently on a 4-game losing streak after losing to Washington 14-3 and then getting swept by Grand Canyon over the weekend. They have been outscored 45-11 over the 4 games, including a 20-5 loss on Sunday.
Kian Hogan will likely get the start for the Redhawks. He has appeared in 14 games this year and has a 9.23 ERA. He has allowed 27 earned runs, 16 walks, and hit 11 batters. He has tallied 24 strikeouts and has a 1-2 record on the year. He did appear in the 10-3 loss to the Cougs back in March and pitched 2.1 innings where he gave up 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and recorded the loss.
The Cougs will return home this weekend for a 3-game series against Oregon State. The first game is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Friday. The second game on Saturday has first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm and the finale on Sunday at 1:00 pm. All three games will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
