The Cougs sweep the season series against Eastern Washington
For the second time in four days, the Washington State volleyball team took down the Eastern Washington Eagles. After defeating them in 4 sets on Friday, the Cougs were able to squeak out a 5 set victory on Monday night. The Eags played them tough in both matches but were unable to pull out the victory on either night.
The Cougs started out strong with a 25-18 first set win, but the Eags didn’t back away and came back to win the second set 27-25. The third set once again was close but this time leaning towards the Cougs with a 26-24 set win. With the Cougs up 2-1, the Eagles turned it on again and took the 4th set 25-20 but couldn’t keep it up in the 5th set as the Cougs came out with a 15-8 set win and a 3-2 match victory.
Katy Ryan led the Cougs with 20 kills with Sage Brustad holding strong at 17 of her own. Lucie Blazkova had 3 aces while Italia Bernal and Brustad each had two. Weronika Wojdyla and Emma Barbero got in on the aces action as well and had one each. Bernal played well on both sides as she tallied 20 digs and Barbero right behind her with 18 as well.
The Cougs will hit the road and head west as they take on the Huskies on Friday at 7:00 pm at Alaska Airlines Arena as part of the Husky Invitational. They will then “host” UC Davis on Saturday again at Alaska Airlines Arena at 6:00 pm. Both matches will be televised on Big 10 Network.
