Plenty of sports to enjoy!
Good evening, Coug fans!
We are still, somehow, existing in the month of January. And what a long one it’s been, maybe just on my end – but I, for one, am excited to see February get closer and closer.
It’s been / it is a big week for your Washington State Cougars! Coming off a busy weekend, I’m sure the Cougs are ready for a fresh start.
In case you missed it, both women’s and men’s basketball programs were unable to put the W in WSU last Thursday, falling to Portland (W) and Santa Clara (M). Saturday wasn’t much better, as the women were, plainly, reffed against LMU and the men fell short against Saint Mary’s. Both of those losses were within a blink, and we’ve got more on them here.
However! Time for some good news!! As many of you know, I am a Washington State Tennis fan first and a human woman second, and tennis is HAPPENING once again!!! On Saturday the Cougs took down Wichita State 5-2, and Sunday they unfortunately fell to Nebraska, 2-5. The Midwest is a fickle beast.
Let’s get into the week ahead though, shall we?
Monday: your WSU women’s basketball played a rematch of the Pac-12 Championship against Oregon State down in Corvallis. Earlier this month, January 4th to be exact, the Cougs took down the Beavs 66-52. And on Monday, they did it again! 65-57!!!
Tuesday and Wednesday: nothing. Hang out with your families! Go on a walk! Make a yummy dinner! Doom scroll! Whatever floats your boat.
Thursday: the season 1 finale of Pac in Action airs on Pac-12 Insider on Amazon Prime and SamsungTV+ at 4pm! That is my little TV show that I have been hosting alongside the internet’s favorite Oregon State fan, my friend Ashtyn Butuso! You can also find our episodes on the Pac-12 Conference YouTube which will never not be strange to me. What do you mean this YouTube channel I’ve been watching forever and conference I have supported since I crawled up from the pits of despair to plague my parents and eventually overtake this here website knows who I am? It’s a very odd sensation, folks! We will be back for Season 2 for football season! ANYWAY!
Most importantly on Thursday, a University of the Pacific double-header. Women’s basketball host the Tigers at 6pm up in Pullman, and the men are down in Stockton, CA to face the Tigers at their place at 7pm. Pacific is sort of a whiplash school to me. Their men’s program is second to last in the WCC, but that didn’t stop them from beating us in overtime! If you care to relive that (why) you can find it here. Their women’s program is right underneath us in the WCC standings, and the Cougs won the most recent matchup on December 30th, 74-66. Funny that they’re playing on the 30th again, a nice end of month meeting. If you care to relive that (more understandable) it’s here!
Friday: Tennis (<3) hosts BYU at noon! Swimming hosts Idaho at 5pm! Track and Field are spread thin, hanging out at the UW Invitational all day in Seattle and at the New Mexico Team Open down in Albuquerque. I’m going to a wedding in Albuquerque in September, so if anyone on the WSU Track team has any restaurant or tourist activity recommendations, DM me!
Saturday: Cougs are kicking off February with a BANG! Track remains at their respective locations, but Spokane is also added to the mix for the Inland Northwest Invitational!
Swimming heads over the Idaho boarder to face off against Idaho. That’s at 10:30am, and I can think of no better way to start your day!
Once you’re done cheering on the swim team, hurry back to Beasley because the women’s basketball team hosts San Diego! San Diego is currently dead last in the WCC, and are the team the Cougs kicked off conference play against, handling the Toreros 65-42.
Men’s hoops visit the Bay to play San Francisco at 7pm. USF is third in the conference – and was a big resume win for the Cougs earlier this month (January 4th) where WSU won 91-82.
Sunday: nothing! Relax! Do your dishes and your laundry! Or don’t, whatever works for you.
Have a good last half of your week- we’re over the hump! Go Cougs!
