Happy Tuesday.
Good morning, Coug fans.
It’s another exciting week for your Washington State Cougars. More specifically, it’s an exciting Thursday – Saturday, so start resting up now.
We’ll kick off the weekend on Thursday – men’s basketball takes on Oregon State down in Corvallis. We’ll have a more in-depth preview tomorrow from a new friend, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Friday brings Tennis down at Cal Poly at noon. Tennis has had an incredible start, 6-1 so far with their only loss being to Nebraska. This will be the second time in program history that the Cougs take on the Mustangs, with WSU having handled the last matchup on February 11th, 2023 with ease: 6-1. However, that doesn’t mean we can discount the ‘25 season. Mustangs are 2-1, having lost to Arizona 0-4 but putting on a strong show against Northern Arizona (4-3) and Montana State (6-1). Fingers crossed for an exciting game.
Friday also holds WSU Track and Field at an all-day invitational in Spokane, the Riverfront Invitational. It’s indoors, so would be fun to check out for all our Spokane Cougs. More info here. The invitational stretches into Saturday, which brings us to…
Saturday at 10am, Tennis takes on Fresno State. The Bulldogs are 3-1, having swept their first two opponents of the season, successfully holding off Santa Clara 4-3, but falling most recently to Sacramento State 3-4. The two teams played against each other steadily from 2000-2003, five times, and unfortunately the Cougs couldn’t get their number, losing each time. After a hiatus, the matchups began again in 2014, Washington State having one the meeting 5-2. The Cougs currently are on a 5 game streak against Fresno State, but their away record is 2-3. Should be another exciting game.
Heading back up the map, in Spokane, the Washington State women take on Gonzaga. The Zags are the number one team in the WCC right now, and the last matchup was a close one. If the Cougs can channel whatever energy they brought to the third quarter last time they played, but push it all game, fingers crossed for a better result. Game is at 2pm on ESPN+.
An hour later, 3pm, WSU men host Pepperdine. It’s no secret that the men’s team is struggling pretty handily, and ideally by Saturday the loss streak won’t be at 5, the turnovers won’t be such a staple, and everyone will be in higher spirits.
Go Cougs.
