The Cougs got a boost in the off week.
Your Washington State Cougars had a nice little Saturday! Not sure if they had time for Home Depot or Bed Bath and Beyond during their off week, but Cougs and Coug fans everywhere had to be pleased with the results around the country. Before we skim what happened around the Cougs, let’s look at the top line: Cougar Football is now in the Top 20!

WSU also moved up to 20th in the Coaches Poll but that poll is super dumb and you shouldn’t waste your time on it unless it’s the only poll that ranks WSU in which case it’s the most credible ranking ever.
Then again, Washington didn’t receive any votes in the Coaches Poll, unlike the AP Poll where a dumbass named Robert Cessna thought that barely beating a 4-5 at home to move to 5-4 – after having been embarrassed at Rutgers, Iowa and Indiana – merits a #21 ranking. Lol. LMFAO even.
That said, Washington’s win does help the Cougar win in Seattle look a bit better. On a related note, Texas Tech went to Ames and defeated the previously-unbeaten Iowa State Cyclones on a last-second touchdown, 23-22, with former Cougar Josh Kelly figuring prominently in the outcome. Thanks, Josh! Thanks, Red Raiders! Guns up!
In more Big 12 chicanery, the Kansas State Wildcats blew a 19-10 fourth quarter lead in Houston, enabling WSU to leapfrog KSU, while previously unbeaten Pitt went to Dallas and left on the wrong end of a Mustang massacre. Combined with the KSU result, WSU matriculated from #22 to #20. Louisville’s beatdown of what appears to be a laughably-overrated Clemson didn’t quite kick Dabo and Co. down far enough for WSU to reach #19. The Cougs are currently 96 points out of 19th, and 117 points ahead of #23 Colorado.
As for the upcoming week, who should we be rooting for, besides the Cougs of course? Here ya go:
- #2 Georgia at #16 Ole Miss – Go Dawgs! (the real Dawgs)
- #11 Alabama at #14 LSU – Hoping for a Tide blowout here.
- #17 Iowa State at Kansas – Rock Chalk!
- #18 Army at North Texas – I’M SORRY BUT YES I AM AGAINST THE PRETEND TROOPS COME AT ME
- #19 Clemson at Virginia Tech – All hail, castrated poultry!
- #21 Colorado at Texas Tech – A Tech win over a Top 25 team would sure be cool for us!
- Crappy Washington at not-as-crappy-but-still-not-that-good Penn State – I mean, as with all Washington games this season, we can’t really lose! A Husky win makes the Cougs look better while a Husky loss enables us to laugh at them even more than normal! In all seriousness, Washington’s Shortcut to Shreveport is still alive! Congrats, also-rans!
As for our beloved WSU, it is installed as a 20-point favorite over future conferencemate Utah State.
