Brown began coaching at North Carolina in 1965. He’s made three trips to the Final Four and three to the NBA Finals, winning the 2004 NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons.
He also won Olympic gold medals as a player (1964) and as an assistant coach (2000).
Currently eighth in all-time NBA wins, Brown hasn’t coached in the league since 2011. However, he’s since spent four seasons at SMU before coating an Italian club in 2018. He’s worked at Memphis as an advisor and assistant to head coach Penny Hardaway over the last two seasons.
The 82-year-old Brown would bring decades of experience to a Huskies program that’s made one NCAA tournament appearance in the last decade. Washington is 101-91 since Hopkins’ arrival after going 16-16 last season.
