Every week, Kirk Herbstreit updates his top six following the completion of the college football slate.
Herbstreit designates his top four playoff teams with two contenders. Today, his choice for No. 1 is a unique one: Washington.
The Huskies moved to 4-0 with a 59-32 win over Cal on Saturday. That 27-point margin of victory is their smallest one so far this season.
As a result, Herbstreit called UW the “most dominant team” in the country Sunday, worthy of the top spot in his personal poll ahead of Georgia, Florida State, Texas, Michigan and Ohio State.
My top 4 AFTER week 4
1-@UW_Football (most dominant team)2-@GeorgiaFootball (most talented team)

4-@TexasFootball (Big win in T-Town and trending up)
Next 2 @UMichFootball (Haven’t lived up to their standard offensively YET)…

If you watched College GameDay on Saturday, you wouldn’t be too surprised to see Herbstreit put Washington first.
He was making his case for the Huskies to be No. 1 even before they blew out Cal.
“You can make an argument right now that Washington is executing at a level as the best team in college football,” Herbstreit said. “If you ranked them No. 1 in the country, I don’t think anybody could argue with you. The way [Michael] Penix [Jr.] is throwing the football, they’ve got great receivers, they can run, the defense is flying.
“Kalen DeBoer has these guys believing. Second year, big season last year. Washington right now looks great.”
Washington remained at No. 8 in the latest Coaches Poll. We’ll see where they are in the AP rankings when they are released shortly.
