We’re two-thirds of the way through the 2023 college football season and nine teams still remain undefeated across the 133 FBS teams. So where do those teams rank among each other?
Of the nine FBS teams that remain unbeaten we have six in the Power Five conferences and three from the Group of Five. All six of the Power Five teams have made at least one appearance in the College Football Playoff since its inception.
Here is the ranking of the nine undefeated teams, via ESPN:
1. Michigan
2. Ohio State
3. Georgia
4. Florida State
5. Washington
6. Oklahoma
7. Air Force
8. James Madison
9. Liberty
The four four teams in this ranking just so happen to be the top four teams in the Associated Press poll, but not in the AP’s order.
By the end of the regular season this list is bound to shrink by at least a one. Ohio State and Michigan play each other in the final week of the regular season.
However, none of the other seven undefeated teams have any clashes with other unbeaten teams. So there’s a clear path to having an undefeated champion come out of a maximum of eight college football conferences.
How many undefeated teams do you think we’ll have when bowl season begins?
