On Tuesday, the Associated Press named its Coach of the Year for college football.
Washington’s Kalen DeBoer is officially the AP Coach of the Year for leading the Huskies to a 13-0 record and appearance in the College Football Playoff.
After having a ton of success at Sioux Falls (67-3 record), DeBoer took his talents to Fresno State. He then left for Washington in the winter of 2021.
DeBoer immediately elevated Washington’s program in 2022, winning 11 out of 13 games.
This year, DeBoer has transformed the Huskies into a team capable of winning shootouts or slugfests.

DeBoer has already been named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Now, he can add AP Coach of the Year to his résumé.
“It’s all about the people around me. This is a team award,” DeBoer said. “When you win, I tell the players this, you win football games, you’re going to get recognized and more awards are going to get shared. I’m fortunate enough to kind of be the figurehead of our team and receive these cool awards. Just really blessed.”
Next up for DeBoer is the Sugar Bowl against Texas, which will be played on Jan. 1.
If Washington defeats Texas on New Year’s Day, it’ll clinch a spot in the national championship game.
