ya, it’s time for another update on the star senior
With 8 regular season games in the season, there have been some updates from the national media regarding awards lists and the such. As covered in previous articles, fifth year forward Yvonne Ejim was nominated earlier in the year for several awards including:
- Becky Hammond POTY Watch list, an award she took home last year as the best mid-major conference in the nation. I cannot find any information about timeline of an updated Midseason Watch list so I will need to pay attention and provide updates as they follow. If Ejim can take home this award again, she would be the first repeat winner in the short history of this award.
- Naismith College POTY Watch list, an honor bestowed upon, you guessed it, the best college basketball player in the country. There has not been an update on this but there is a scheduled announcement of the Midseason Watch list coming 2/12/2025 so stay tuned!
- Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch list, which gets awarded to the best college basketball player as selected by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. This past week, the Association declared their Midseason Watc hlist and included none other than Spokane’s finest, Yvonne Ejim.

- And finally, the Women’s College Basketball All-Star updated their Midseason Watch list and kept the star Zag in contention for this honor of playing against the best college players around for the ‘24-25 campaign.

None of this should be too surprising given that the Canadian has averaged 21.4 points and 8.8 rebounds, both leading the WCC, as well as chipping in 2.8 assists. She only trails Allie Turner’s 3.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 block.
Her consistency has yielded 65 straight games with double digit point and a career total of more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds (the first Gonzaga player to reach that milestone and only 5th active player in the nation).
So, ya, it’s Vonny’s world. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
