Another one to add to her already storybook basketball career!
New York Liberty guard and Gonzaga legend Courtney Vandersloot can add another WNBA Championship ring to her collection. She has now won a title with the Chicago Sky in 2021 and the New York Liberty in 2024.
She nailed her role this season with the Liberty as Sabrina Ionescu’s backup and a shoulder to lean on. Ionescu continued wanting to learn more from the 5x WNBA All-Star throughout the season and wouldn’t have been as successful as she was without Vandersloot’s guidance.
Vandersloot’s numbers in 14th professional season don’t wow you at 6.4 PPG on 44.5 FG%, 4.8 APG and 2.6 RPG but that was all done in a career-low 22.3 MPG. During the postseason run with the Liberty, it was pretty similar stuff. In 11 games, she averaged 5.3 PPG on a shooting split of 43.5 FG%/38.5 3PT%/92.9 FT%, 2.5 APG and 2.4 RPG in just 14.4 MPG.
I don’t know when Vandersloot will call it quits but she has put together a Hall of Fame resume during her time with the game of basketball:
– 2x WNBA champion
– 7x All-WNBA
– 7x WNBA assists leader
– 5x WNBA All-Star
– 3x EuroLeague champion
– 2x Turkish National League champion
– Turkish National League MVP
– 4x All-WCC
– 3x WCC Player of the Year
– 3x WCC Tournament MVP
– 2x NCAA season assists leader
– Nancy Lieberman Award
– AP Second Team All-American
It’s no coincidence that the two of the greatest point guards in the WNBA and NBA history both went to Gonzaga in Courtney Vandersloot and John Stockton. Point Guard U is located in Spokane.
