the team will host the College of Idaho tonight
Tonight represents the first time we will be able to watch our Bulldogs suit up and take the floor against foreign opposition. It might just be an exhibition, but these matchups can’t be overlooked for the value in allowing players to test themselves against someone you won’t run across in your polysci course the next morning.
The College of Idaho Yotes ply their trade in the Cascade Collegiate Conference of the NAIA that features teams like Lewis-Clark College and Eastern Oregon University. The Yotes have been pretty mid over the past five years with their best season performances ending with a .500 record.
However, things might be looking for the squad this year. They have been selected 5th in the twelve team ‘24-24 CCC Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll and bring back their top six scorers with 5’8” junior guard Mia Austin and 5’10” sophomore Brooke Beresford leading the way with a combined 22.4 points and 10.1 rebounds.
That being said, I wouldn’t expect too much resistance from the Yotes as last season, they played Boise State in an early season exhibition and lost 77-29. As such, tonight’s game should represent a good chance to face off a lower level program that could punch above their weight. I’ll be watching for the team to hopefully shore up their outside shooting, at a least a little bit, after that FanFest stinker. I’ll also be closely watching the minutes allocation, outside of standards like Yvonne, Maud, and Tayla, and how the coaching staff has adjusted the offense to maximize this unit’s potential.
